7EmiratesRun raises AED60,000 for Al Jalila Foundation to support Sharjah toddler suffering from limb deformity

Seven ultramarathon runners concluded their 11-day charity run across the seven emirates on UAE National Day. They raised approximately AED60,000 for Al Jalila Foundation, a global philanthropy.

The funds will help Mohammed Ayoub, an 18-month-old Sharjah boy suffering from congenital limb deformity, to get back on his feet.

Al Jalila Foundation, dedicated to transforming lives through medical education and research, will top up the funds to cover the toddler’s complex surgery and post-operative care, estimated to cost AED100,000.

The 575km run across the country was led by German expatriate Wendelin Lauxen of the home-grown 7EmiratesRun group that combines health with philanthropy. He holds the Guinness World Record for fastest time to complete a marathon on each of the seven continents.

Al Jalila Foundation partnered with the 7EmiratesRun group to raise funds for the toddler’s life-changing surgery. The group is sponsored by the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a free zone global hub that facilitates education, research and investment in the medical field.

The group of seven ultra-marathon runners started the charity run from Abu Dhabi on November 21, 2013, and concluded in Dubai.

Dr Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama, CEO, Al Jalila Foundation, said:

“We are deeply grateful to the 7EmiratesRun group. Their dedication and support will help change Mohammed Ayoub’s life. We are also delighted with the level of community support that the group had garnered across the seven emirates. Al Jalila Foundation supports and encourages such initiatives that reflect our vision to make life-transforming contributions in healthcare.”

Marwan Abedin, CEO, Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), said:

“We appreciate the outstanding contribution by each of the seven runners from the 7Emirates Run group, which is spearheaded by one of our business partners at the DHCC. We are proud to further the efforts of our partner organisation Al Jalila Foundation. Through supporting such initiatives, the DHCC reinforces its commitment to facilitate key partnerships that promote health and wellbeing.”
